Who we are
We are
peasant women: small peasants, leaseholders, sharecroppers,
women who hold legal titles to property, day-workers, partners,
women who crack coconuts, rural workers who extract products
from the trees, artisanal fisherwomen, landless women, settled
and camped women, salaried rural workers… Natives, black women,
descendants of Europeans, representatives of all the states of
our country. To fight forever is our determination. In this
spirit, we launched our independent movement of women.
In our
history, we have persecuted the fight of the women for the
equality of rights and the end of any form of violence practised
against women. We belong to the working class, therefore, we are
closely bound up with other organizations and movements of workers.
We resist
the economic, political, social and cultural consequences of
neoliberalism which augments the exploration of workers, and
increases violence and discrimination against women.
The fight for the liberation of women is
everybodys task. But we believe that women
are mainly responsible ones for this goal
Message and
symbology of the MMC
Our
Movement of Female Peasants (Movimento de Mulheres Camponesas,
MMC) is the result of the fight for the liberation of women which
has its roots in a national movement. The symbolic message of the
MMC finds its right to exist in the desire of justice and
happiness that encourages us in the fight and in the base work.
Land, water, fire and air are elements that give meanings to our
common message of life.
This
message makes us believe that if we join in the fight for justice
in Brazil, it will bring great social changes.
As female
peasants, fighters, militants and leaders of our Movement, we find
enthusiasm for life, for women and nature in fraternization.
The
mutual message will help us to reconstitute a human culture which
transforms and takes care of life and which, little by little,
casts the new woman fighter.
In this
way, we have a common message:
-
of
appreciation and liberation of the female peasants
-
defending the working class;
-
that
passionates women for the cause of their liberation, based on
the commitment to justice, commitment with the poor and
commitment to democracy;
-
of
fight against exploration, violence, discrimination and
domination;
-
that
awakes in us the desire to fight for our dignity and our rights;
-
that
creates in us autonomy and organization;
-
that
fights against chauvinism and awakes the desire for building new
relations of equality;
-
that
respects our history of fight, our cultural diversity, our
existing experiences and our regional and national symbols;
- of relation with nature and
defending nature, seeds, biodiversity...
This set
of rules in our message will be expressed, lived and advanced
permanently in different moments of our fights, activities and
manifestations.
We will
work so that our identification as female peasants and militants
of the MMC, is expressed by the message originating at our
Movement and motivates women to continue our fights. As we look at
a militant female peasant of our movement, we visualize the MMC in
her!
Our
symbology will be expressed in the flag of the MMC that has to be
seen in all our activities. The lila color, the straw hat and the
lila handkerchief symbolize the resistance of the women and will
be present in everything that identifies us.
